Terms of Service
Plain-language terms for using PayFriends. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them.
Last updated: 20 August 2026
1. What PayFriends is
PayFriends is a record-keeping tool for loans between friends and family. It lets you document a loan, agree on a repayment schedule, log payments and receive reminders.
PayFriends does not move, hold or process money. We are not a bank, payment institution, lender, credit broker or debt-collection agency. Any payment is made directly between you and the other party, outside of PayFriends; we only record what you tell us.
2. Your account
- Anyone can create an account with a working email address; you can also be invited to one directly by someone recording an agreement with you.
- Sign-in is passwordless: we email a single-use link to your address. Keep access to that mailbox secure — anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.
- You must be at least 18 years old and provide accurate information.
- You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.
3. Agreements between users
An agreement in PayFriends is between the lender and the borrower — not with us. PayFriends is not a party to it, does not verify that a loan was actually paid out, and does not guarantee repayment.
- Both parties must accept an agreement before it becomes active. Changes to a schedule create a new version that both parties can see; earlier versions are kept for the record.
- Every entry in a loan’s ledger — a repayment or a further amount lent — is shown as reported until the OTHER party confirms it. Whoever logs an entry cannot confirm their own. Either of you may later correct an entry or ask for it to be taken off the loan, and again the other one decides — until they do, the figure you both agreed is the one that counts. Balances are calculated only from confirmed entries.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of amounts, dates and payments you enter, and for any tax, interest or legal consequences of your private loan.
- Whether a PayFriends record is legally enforceable depends on your local law and the facts of your situation. PayFriends does not provide legal or financial advice.
4. Reminders and the assistant
PayFriends sends reminder emails about upcoming and overdue payments on behalf of the lender. An AI assistant may help you draft an agreement from a description or an uploaded document. The assistant only helps fill in a draft — all amounts, schedules and balances are calculated by PayFriends itself, and nothing is sent to another user without your review and approval.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use PayFriends to:
- harass, threaten or pressure anyone, or record loans the other person has not agreed to;
- record unlawful lending, usurious interest or anything that violates applicable law;
- upload content you have no right to share, or malware;
- probe, scrape or interfere with the service, or try to access other users’ data.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
6. Availability and changes
PayFriends is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to keep it running and your records accurate, but we do not promise uninterrupted service and we may change, pause or discontinue features. If we ever shut the service down, we will give reasonable notice and a way to export your agreements.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, PayFriends and its operators are not liable for unpaid loans, disputes between users, decisions you take based on information in the app, or indirect or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
8. Ending your account
You can stop using PayFriends at any time and ask us to delete your account via the contact form. Records of agreements you share with another user may be kept for that user, as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. For material changes we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use PayFriends afterwards means you accept the updated terms.
